Santa Specials On the last weekend of November the Santa Special services began and the juniors were in the thick of it working on-board the trains or at stations. This year the juniors are taking personal ownership of running a station based tombola stand at Stanhope which incorporates a fund raising stand selling donated GNER branded glassware. Below four juniors are seen at the new Booking Office / shop at Wolsingham station during a break between services. Remembrance Day : Sunday 9th November 2008 Junior Club members represented the Railway at the Remembrance Day commemoration in Stanhope - all wearing their new uniforms, funds for which they raised themselves. They have deservedly received significant positive feedback for their turn out on this occasion. “Impressed and pleased to see young people involved”, “Pleased to see them and how smart and well turned out they were”. Congratulations to the Club members.
Pushing towards Bishop Auckland : Sunday 26th October 2008 The Sunday track clearance gang continue to push towards Bishop Auckland and have now reached Latherbrush Bridge, some 400 meters west of Bishop Auckland station and members of the WRjc were again part of the team. It is expected that the line will be cleared to Bishop Auckland station within the next two weeks. Juniors pictured clearing the embankment on the approach to Latherbrush Bridge.
Working with the Sunday Gang : Sunday 19th October 2008 As part of the Weardale Railway's push to get the line open to Bishop Auckland, members of the Junior Club worked alongside our track clearance team "The Sunday Gang" at Witton-le-Wear. Award Scheme - Visit to Tanfield Railway : 12th October 2008 As a further "Trainee of the Month Award" scheme reward, the 4 top scoring trainees enjoyed a special day with our friends at the Tanfield Railway, working on the train with the Guard and at the Level Crossing. The group also had the rare opportunity to travel in the Guard's van on special coal train services. The top scorers Working on-board Working at the Level Crossing wot - no high viz?
Morrisons Bag Pack : 11th October 2008 The Junior Club held another bag packing session to raise funds for the club and the No 40 appeal. As a result £701.25 was raised.
Award Scheme - Visit to Wensleydale Railway Diesel Gala : 20th Sept 2008 A special visit was arranged to the Wensleydale Railway diesel Gala as part of the WRjc award scheme.
"Here Come the Rollers" : 28th September 2008 The Junior Club was fully involved when the "Rollers" visited Stanhope. Here are the team taking a well earned break.
Major Incident Exercise : 8th September 2008 The Junior Club were fully involved in the recent major incident exercise where they played the part of injured passengers on-board a train which had hit a car on a level crossing. Here are a few images of the event.
Visit to York : 16th August 2008 On Saturday 16th August 2008, 11 members enjoyed a day trip to York, below are a few photos from the visit. Ready to depart at Durham Station. Visit by the Tanfield Youth Group : Sunday 10th August 2008 As part of our twinning arrangement, the Tanfield Youth Team were guests at the Weardale Railway. See News for full details. Asda Bag Pack : Saturday 9th August 2008 Members of the Junior Club took part in a bag packing event to raise funds for the club and the No 40 appeal. As a result £712 was raised and will be split between the two causes. Below the team are seen outside the store after their very successful day. |
War on the Line Weekend : 2nd & 3rd August 2008 The Junior Club were fully involved in the War on the Line event with members helping with event preparation and in various roles during the event itself including running the wartime cinema and also playing the part of evacuees. | Sponsored Walk in support of the No 40 Appeal : Saturday 19th July 2008 The WRjc sponsored walk took place on Saturday 19th July 2008 and as a result in excess of £1,400 was raised for the Number 40 Appeal. 8 Junior members and 4 adults took part, covering a distance of 5.5 miles from Stanhope to Wolsingham. The walk route followed the route of the Weardale Railway The team take advantage of the sunny weather near Broadwood Crossing

| WRLPG Model Railway Exhibition at Spennymoor On Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th May 2008 members of the WRjc were invited to the Weardale Railway Locomotive Preservation Group's Model Railway Exhibition at Spennymoor where they helped out on the entrance door, assisted running the displays and manned the Weardale Railway Trust stand. | Working Day with the Tanfield Youth Team : Sunday 4th May 2008 10 Members of the WRjc visited the Tanfield Railway to take part in a working day alongside the Tanfield's Youth Team. | Depot Diesel Open Days : 12th & 13th April 2008 On 12th & 13th April 2008 the Weardale Railway held it first ever depot diesel open days and the WRjc were around to help out. Lending a hand Below two members are pictured assisting in the Griddle Car which was open for service on the passenger service between Wolsingham and Stanhope. Recruiting The Depot Open day was seen as an ideal opportunity to run a recruiting event on the service train for both adult volunteers and the WRjc. Two WRjc members are pictured at the recruiting stand within the Griddle Car. And the reward... The workers were rewarded with a trip to the depot. |
