Are you aged 11 to 15 and interested in being… the Guard, Crossing Keeper, Booking Clerk or Ticket Inspector? These are just a few of the jobs that you will get the opportunity to do as a member of the Weardale Railway Junior Club |
The Junior Club is open to young people aged 10 to 15 and offers members a training programme covering both railway and non-railway related subjects, visits to other railways and special events, and from age 11, the opportunity to be involved with the day-to-day running of the railway under the supervision of experienced members of staff, working alongside the Guard, Travelling Ticket Inspector, Controller, Crossing Keeper, Station Maintenance staff, in the depot, in the station cafe and gift shop and also special events both on and off train. Our Aims & Objectives - To provide volunteering and educational opportunities for young people to develop responsibility, self-discipline and good citizenship. - Encourage the development of communication, leadership and teamwork skills. - To provide guidance and instruction on railway activities, both practical and theoretical, stimulating an interest in the rail industry. - To develop the relationship between the Weardale Railway and the younger elements of the community. - To support the aims and objectives of the Weardale Railway Trust. - To support the long term volunteering needs of the Weardale Railway. Our Vision The Weardale Railway Junior Club to be the number one heritage railway youth organisation, regarded as a model of best practice. An Organisation that young people want to join and which is recognised for: - The quality of the young people it helps to develop. - Being recognised and respected as an organisation which is good for the community, youth engagement and the rail industry. - It’s honest, welcoming, respectful and safe culture. In order to achieve the above the WRjc will be based on the following key factors: - Honesty - Integrity - Commitment - Respect for others - Traditional values
