Weardale Railway Youth Team (WRyt)                Updated 22nd February 2010

WRyt is associated to the Junior Club and has been formed to allow members aged 16 & 17 to continue their training and volunteering with the Weardale Railway after having "graduated" from the Junior Club.

WRyt gives members the opportunity to train in a number of operational roles, preparing them to become qualified adult volunteers when they attain the appropriate age for the role. Some roles can be undertaken immediately by members as an independent volunteer upon attaining the minimum age.

WRyt is open to all existing members upon attaining 16 years of age.

 

Members of WRyt can take advantage of WRjc training sessions, visits and trips.

 

WRyt members can work in the following areas subject to the following age restriction:-

 

Café 16

Buffet Car 16

Gift Shop 16

Ticket Office 16

Secondman 16

Cleaner – Steam or Diesel 16

Travelling Ticket Inspector 16

Track work 16

Depot work 16

Trainee Controller 16

Trainee Guard 16

Trainee Crossing Keeper 16

 

Minimum ages for adults are:-

 

Controller 18

Guard 18

Fireman 18  

Shunter 18

Trainee Duty Manager 18

Crossing Keeper / Signalman 18   

Driver 21

Duty Manager 21
